I went for a very long walk today ... Day 1 in 2012 .... and listened to about four songs.

That's four songs in 4.6 miles, walking.  

I must have listened to "Like You'll Never See Me Again" by Alicia Keys about a gazillion times.

Yes, it's about having limited time here and together and it's about appreciating what you may lose.

My friend Holly heard this story a few years ago and suggested I take my mom to Girls Rock Camp, an annual band camp for women and girl musicians in Atlanta.

 Luis Gutierrez' story (above) pretty much tells it all.

The artist's Power Angel caught my eye in a building on the ASU campus. I love the blue background, the powerful fist thrust into the air, the wings.   It wasn't until I'd read Luis's story about feeling a little lost in Germany that I noticed the Power Angel walks with a cane.

Sue has been in Serbia for the last two weeks teaching journalists about diversity - a tall order in that war-torn country.  And an admirable way to spend her time.  But, dang, two weeks is a long time apart.

I baked a carrot, hazelnut bread with cream cheese glaze recently that made my neighbors begin talking about us all going into business.  It was truly awesome, but I give credit to a wonderful new recipe.



I found the mix-and-match recipe in a copy of the May 2011 Food Network magazine and my Perfect Moment this morning was when I finally found it online.

I've worked with my buddy, Micah, for nearly a year. Eight months ago his wife gave birth to a little girl, their first. 
I've seen photos. Micah's wife visited with the baby when she was tiny.  But I was out that day.

It was a killer.  94 degrees and humid in Tempe, Arizona.  The run is part of my campaign to get moving, lose a little weight, enjoy the peacefulness of the distance runner. I had the hardest time getting out of the house on Saturday morning to go run a 5k. I was heading out to run the first in the 5-race Summer Series sponsored by the Arizona Road Racers.  The series is designed to keep runners training through the hot summer.
