Photo project creates comfort between strangers

On the Road: Photographer proves strangers are friends you haven't met yet.

As part of CBS News's continuing series "On the Road," Steve Hartman meets a New York photographer who asks strangers on the street to pose as though they're couples, friends or family.

I dare you to watch this and keep from melting just a little.

Central Arizona Project canals snake through Phoenix. These are great running paths in the winter. Hot ones in the summer.

As I ran along this path today, I remembered the words of a good friend and runner who always coached me: "Nevermind the speed, do the distance."

Tyler Sharp: Respect, genuine interest and soulful moments in photography

I love photographs. Still photos let you savor a moment. The way a photo stops the action can sometimes say so much more than video ... and certainly more than 1,000 words.

One of my favorite photo sites is Pictory, which its founder Laura Brunow Miner calls a showcase of life through true photo stories.

Tyler Sharp, a photographer from Texas, has been published in Pictory more than any other person. The following is an excerpt from his profile page on Pictory. What he said about soulful moments (the underline is mine) makes me think of Perfect Moments.

What are your favorite things to photograph?

Serendipity. I am a very spiritual person, and I try to let that guide my photography and storytelling as much as possible. I have found that when you approach subjects or locations with a respect and a genuine interest in the culture, serendipitous, soulful moments find you. I crave adventure, and in some cases danger. I am hopelessly addicted to the wilds of Africa, and the uncertainty and raw beauty you find there every day. I prefer natural light, and love to shoot under a Comanche moon. Moon Shadows!

Perhaps there is more to these slices of life we call Perfect Moments than just noticing them. I don't think we create them, but maybe the way we live, the way we interact with others helps create a spirit that allows them to happen.

PhotoFunia and other cool time-wasters

The Bloggess had a funny blog this week about ways to avoid getting fired over your Facebook and Twitter and other Social Network postings. She's so funny.

It was pretty much that you just create a fake Facebook page for your boss and then mess with him.

Funny enough. Yeeaaah. But she also pointed me to this funny time-waster Web site: PhotoFunia. And I'm having some good times.


Cause sometimes you gotta just play.

Perfect summer, a little coaster love

Making memories.

Those two at the top are having the time of their lives at Great America, San Francisco's theme park.

Avi and Zev's mom took this photo of a Perfect Summer Day. School's out. Mom has taken the kids to a fantastic playground full of thrills. And all is well with the world.

Isn't this a perfect image of a carefree day?

Great America has rides called Survivor, Delirium, Demon. I'm hoping this one was more like Kiddie Roller Ride, but not sure. I think both of these kids can take more stomach-turning thrills than their Auntie.

Sour cool video: Coordinating people around the world

You could say this is just cool.

Could also say it is about coordinating movement across performers and dividing the screen space up in creative ways... and perhaps a study in patience.

The video producers said:
This music video was shot for Sour’s ‘Hibi no Neiro’ (Tone of everyday) from their first mini album ‘Water Flavor EP’. The cast were selected from the actual Sour fan base, from many countries around the world. Each person and scene was filmed purely via webcam.

I had no idea the depths of Polyvore. I actually had never heard of Polyvore. You see I don't have a 12-year-old daughter. But I flew into D.C. yesterday and spent a lovely afternoon with my niece Gracie.
