When Aloha means 'Thank god we're still here'

Sometimes the best part of a vacation is the anticipation. You might say that was the case this Christmas when Sue and I flew to Hawaii to celebrate her birthday. But you'd be wrong.

We started planning in the summer, booked the flight and hotel in August and bought tickets to a luau and made reservations for Christmas dinner soon after.

We were so excited. Ready for a break from work and to spend a few days in paradise. I was looking forward to showing Sue my old haunts from when I lived in Hawaii in my 20s.

Then we had one of those hiccups that happens because we're not in our 20s anymore. A little health issue stopped us in our tracks for a day or so at the beginning of our trip.

Was this vacation going to be all anticipation? No. It turned out to be just fine. We did everything we'd planned -- just did it at a slower pace, with a little less gusto.

I'm so glad you were able to enjoy yourselves in spite of the health issue. I hope all is resolved now. The slide show is amazing! You both look happy and healthy.

Loved the slide show. Hawaii is so beautiful. I believe that sometimes a slower pace is a gift to allow us to savor the moment. Hope everyone is healthy!

Here via Perfect Moment Monday and agree with Amy about a slower pace being a gift at times. I too hope your health issues have been resolved or are soon. Thank you for sharing! I love Hawaii! My husband and I honeymooned there 12 years ago. Happy New Year!

Thanks for all your good wishes, everyone. It's pretty easy to put together a beautiful slideshow when you have Hawaii as your backdrop.
I agree that a slower pace is a wonderful thing. Sue's doing OK. She's got a recurring issue that flared up 3 hours after we touched down!! Geez!
We'll slow down for a while ... and lean on each other.

Happy New Year to you all! Thanks, Lori, for sending eyeballs my way. Always a treat.

I'm glad you got to make it to Hawaii, even with that bump in the road. My wife and I were able to have a 24-hour layover there on the way back from visiting her parents in South Korea; it was awesome!

Sounds fun, Addison. But 24 hours in Hawaii. I don't think I'd be able to sleep.
