Oh, Boogie Woogie man.. he's your grandfather ..

When I sat down to write this I had a hard time deciding which perfect moment to write about because God has blessed me with many of them.

My wonderful daughter at the moment of her birth (back in those days there was no ultrasound. You didn’t know if your child had 14 legs and 2 heads until the baby popped out (smile)...

The perfect moment when I awoke from a life threatening surgery and realized that “I’m still here”...

The first time I was called “grandma” and so many others. (I’ve been around awhile) I had to think long and hard. So I finally picked one.

When I was a toddler I had memories of a handsome kind gentleman who would come to our home and visit. He would always play with me and then started teaching me how to play the boogie woogie on the piano.

He was so much fun and so kind-hearted. I just absolutely loved him. Unfortunately I never knew his name.

We moved away, years passed and I would always tell friends about this man who was so kind to me as a little child. Understand that my mother passed when I was barely 2 years old so I didn’t even really remember her.

Well years and years later I was talking to my eldest sister, who was 83-years-old at the time, and I got this idea to ask her if she knew who this man was. Well, she told me to tell her about him and maybe she would remember his name. As I started to tell her, I saw this wonderful smile actually light up her face...

I asked her what are you smiling about? She replied, “just go on and tell me the rest of the story about him”. So I went ahead and finished.

Then she spoke. She said, that was your grandfather, that was momma’s father. I was so taken aback and thrilled at the same time. Talking about a “Perfect Moment”.

The feeling that went through me was like a beautiful light. I finally got to know who he was, but the best part was to find out that he was my Grandfather. I was so young when my mother passed that no one realized that by me being the baby, I really didn’t know many of my relatives.

I would meet people later as I got older and find out that they were a cousin or uncle or aunt. Everybody assumed I knew who everyone was in the family.

PS: My sister gave me a picture of him which I cherish dearly.

Beautiful post.

None of us can truly live perfect lives, but all of us have our perfect moments.

God bless.

How wonderful that your sister was able to fill in the blanks.

I loved reading your perfect moments, Sonja.

That is a beautiful story. It's rare when pieces fit together after so long like that.
