Mother Nature Gets Feisty!

Reading Sue's post about her favorite Christmas memory brought back one of my favorite winter memories... a memory of a time when we were forced into our homes for days because mother nature got a little feisty!

It was when I was 16 and we were stationed at Langley AFB, Virginia, in the base housing known as "Bethel Manor". There was my mom, my dad, my 11 year old brother and my two sisters, ages 12 and 14.

This particular winter, there was a huge snowstorm. It knocked out the power for a couple of days and we were pretty much left to fend for ourselves. Can you imagine, no TV? This was before cell phones and laptops, so we couldn't entertain ourselves with those either. How did we make do? We cooked our meals on a camp stove, we talked and we played games -- Monopoly, Bingo, Pokeno, Blackjack with pennies, you name it!

That turned out to be one of the best family times. I can only hope that I am creating these kinds of wonderful memories for my own kids.

Debra is my sister and I remember that time. I also remember mom allowing us to eat ice cream "before it all melted" ! It was really cold, but man, it was a blast!
